Frequently Asked Questions

Scratch & Dent Insurance helps cover the cost of repairing minor cosmetic damage to your vehicle’s bodywork. This can include small chips, light scratches, minor dents, scuffed bumpers and eligible alloy wheel damage.

The policy is designed for damage that can be repaired using specialist SMART repair techniques. These repairs are usually carried out by approved repairers and are intended to restore the affected area without needing a full bodyshop repair.

Cover includes up to 5 repairs for each 12-month period of cover.

For the damage to be eligible, it must fall within the policy limits. These include:

  • Chip: no more than 5mm in diameter and 3mm in depth.
  • Light scratch: no more than 30cm in length, 3mm in depth and affecting no more than two body panels.
  • Minor dent: no more than 30cm in diameter, 3mm in depth and affecting no more than two body panels.
  • Scuffed bumper: a scuff or dent to a bumper no more than 30cm in diameter or 3mm in depth.
  • Alloy wheel damage: scratches or kerb damage to the original alloy wheels fitted to your vehicle.

Each claim is limited to one minor cosmetic repair. Where multiple areas of damage are caused by the same incident, they may be treated as one claim, provided the total damaged area is no larger than 30cm in diameter or 3mm in depth.

Damage that is larger than these limits, or which is expected to take more than four hours to repair, will not be treated as minor cosmetic damage under the policy.

No, Scratch and Dent Insurance does not include any damage to your windscreen.

Even minor bodywork damage can be expensive to put right. If left unrepaired, small chips, dents or scratches may also become more noticeable over time and could affect the overall appearance and value of your vehicle.

Sura Scratch & Dent Insurance helps take the stress out of everyday cosmetic damage by covering the cost of eligible minor repairs, subject to the policy terms and limits. It’s a simple way to help keep your car looking its best without relying on your standard motor insurance.

Your standard motor insurance may cover cosmetic damage, but it is not always the most practical option for smaller repairs. In many cases, the cost of fixing a minor scratch, dent or scuff may be less than your motor insurance excess, meaning a claim may not be worthwhile.

Sura Scratch & Dent Insurance gives you a simpler way to deal with eligible minor cosmetic damage, helping you avoid unnecessary claims on your main motor insurance and reducing the risk of affecting your No Claims Bonus.

The policy also includes cover for eligible alloy wheel repairs, helping protect both your vehicle’s bodywork and wheels.

No. Gap Insurance and cosmetic car insurance are separate products designed for different situations.

Gap Insurance is intended to help if your vehicle is written off or stolen and declared a total loss. Depending on the type of Gap cover you choose, it can help cover the difference between your motor insurer’s settlement and either the amount you originally paid for the vehicle or the amount still owed to your finance company.

Scratch & Dent Insurance is designed for minor cosmetic damage, such as eligible chips, light scratches, small dents, scuffed bumpers and alloy wheel damage.
